How to Create a Desktop Pool?

A Desktop Provider provides virtual machines (called desktops in Oracle VDI) to... pools of desktops. This video shows how to create and populate a new desktop pool with 6 desktops. In real life you will have several hundreds of desktops, or even grow a pool up to the 4 digit range.

In the second part of the video, John will show how to assign a user or user group from the company to the new pool. Voilà, you are done, and your employees can access a desktop from a Sun Ray, from another desktop with the Oracle Virtual Desktop Client (OVDC), or from an iPad.

StockTouch

StockTouch is the eleventh revealed app in my little advent calendar. I wish all big data visualization tool designers would find some inspiration in this lovely app.

VDiPad

This is bizarre. At least it is not the originally intended use for an iPad. But it makes sense in some situations to be able to access your corporate desktop from anywhere.

The photos show the Oracle Virtual Desktop Client app connecting to Oracle Virtual Desktop Infrastructure, providing a Windows instance running on VirtualBox in the data center.

Typing. Clicking. Dancing.

This is my invited talk at SirValUse Academy last week. I’ve presented my idea of a historical framework for HCI paradigms from CLIs, to GUIs, to TUIs and NUIs by comparing them with the development of children according to Jerome Bruner’s Mentalities theory. Enjoy_

Back to Childhood in UI Design

Here is the video of my presentation at Hyperkult: Back to Childhood - Infantilization of UI Design. After the talk Ivan Sutherland pointed out that the TX-2 was just build to prove the concept of a computer based on transistors. The four black knobs below the screen where not build in specific for Sketchpad; they rather controlled directly the value for four memory registers that Ivan used for scrolling and zooming the image on screen.
