Call for test - MetaTracker

In the previous post I've wrote about great tool MetaTracker.

Since then, many bugs were fixed, so now you can download and test much more stable version.

How do I install MetaTracker

\* The packages were checked on Solaris Nevada (x86) build 74.
\* Just download the install-script and run it.

If you want to try Thunderbird support, you should install tracker and follow the steps:
\* Download the tracker_922.xpi file
\* Install in the Thunderbird using option Tools->Add-ons
\* Restart Thunderbird
\* Restart trackerd daemon (or simply logout/login)

Please re-install Thunderbird plugin if you already have the old version.

Does this extension support indexing the message data? Can I help contribute this code?

Posted by Manoj on January 30, 2008 at 03:52 PM UTC #

Hello Manoj,
This version doesn't support mail body indexing, but the new one available through spec-file-extra does:
http://pkgbuild.sourceforge.net/spec-files-extra/

If you would like to contribute the part of handling deleted and junk e-mails is one area of contribution.

I've been looking for something like this for ages! Thank you!

I just installed it under Ubuntu 7.10 - and it works. :-D

I followed your instructions but got:

Error
Thunderbird could not instal the file ... because:
Not a valid intall package
-207

I am using Thunderbird version 2.0.0.6 on Ubuntu Gutsy.

The package which is provided here is not for Ubuntu operating system. Linux != Solaris/OpenSolaris :-)

Anyway this package is a little bit outdated, the new one is available through spec-files-extra.

But is there a similar package for Ubuntu? I did'nt notice it was for OpenSolaris actually.

You said there was a version of the tracker/beagle thunderbird extension that supports mail body indexing available in spec-files-extra. I searched through the SVN and I could not locate anything like that. Did I misunderstand you? Or were you referring to Meta Tracker itself? Have you talked to Pierre Östlund anymore about generalising the beagle plugin to also work with tracker? I'd love to see this functionality!

Cheers

Yes, the svn version supports mail body indexing.
I will build new version of tracker by the end of next week, since I am quite busy developing GUI for IPS:

http://www.genunix.org/wiki/index.php/Ips_Gui#Schedule

You can also build it by yourself, all the bits are available through spec-files-extra:

http://pkgbuild.sourceforge.net/spec-files-extra/

Actually it is not available in spec-files-extra any more.
Halton Huo moved the patches to vermillion on jan 24:

Very interesting plug-in.Definitely something that many people have been looking for! I read the comments page a couple of times, and I still couldn't find the answers to the following questions (Sorry!) so therefore I will ask them:

I'm running the new ubuntu 8.04 with Mozilla Thunderbird 2.0.0.12. I installed the plugin and its working great. I also installed Tracker from the repository and it is also working perfectly. It doesn't however finds any e-mails when I make a search. I imagning that I some how need a connection between the two programs but how (if possible do I make this?).

Best Regard
Tobias

Great tool. Would be simply fantastic if it could look into email body too. I looked at the provided link into spec-files-extra, but couldn't locate the files I would need to compile.

I am fairly comfortable with cvs and svn, and would be glad to compile the xpi file and upload it somewhere, if I knew where the files are.

Let me know where I might be able to get stuff from, and I'll help if I can.

Thanks,

Jaime

Hi Jaime!

Look at my post (about fourth from bottom) :-)
The patch has moved and the last revision can be found here: http://pkgbuild.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/pkgbuild?view=rev&revision=827

It would be great, if someone familiar with this topic would compile a patched version.
(I fear it's more than building the xpi, correct me if I'm wrong)

Thanks a lot!

Hello!

Did http://migi.azs.pwr.wroc.pl/stuff/tracker_922.xpi work with MetaTracker 0.8.7 (from TrackerTeam) and ThunderBird 3.0.\* - on Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid 64-bit ?

I cannot see any results...

Thank`s all! :)
