Caffeine-Free Me - Week 3

I've been on the Skinny Bitch diet for 3 weeks now and I'm feeling good. The first week was a little bit rough, I think I was going through some kind of withdrawal. But last week and this week have been great. My energy level is back to normal and my energy is more sustained - I don't feel the peaks and valleys during the course of the day like I used to.

The diet requires that you eat fruit and only fruit every morning for breakfast. This part is brilliant for someone like me who always forgets to eat the 5 servings of fruit and vegetables every day. With this diet you've already gotten 3 of your 5 servings before 8am.

Even after this 30-day trial is over I'm not going to go back on caffeine. I've already decided that. I might, however, go back on sugar. I'm really missing the occasional cookie or piece of cake.

I have been wanting to get that Skinny Bitch book, because I really hear it changes your life. I definitely want to hear how you feel after 30 days of this. I tried recently to give up caffeine, and I'm surprised at how well I did - for about a week. For now I'm just cutting waaaayyyy back - but eventually I'd like to give it up altogether, save the occasional coffee/soda. So this is encouraging.

and now I want some fruit.

Okay, I'm all for the occasional cookie, but I think sugar is what's responsible for those energy highs and lows... I'm going to have to read the book. Why fruit for breakfast? This is a tough time of years for fruit for breakfast...

"I might, however, go back on sugar" - huh! You already are on sugar - fruits are mainly sugar and water with some vitamins thrown in

I was off caffeine for years and managed just fine...until I started having it again :)

Another good book which might change how you think about eating is the South Beach Diet Book. I think it does a good job of explaining the highs/low we get due to the glycimic index of foods....and it is the opposite of the skinny bitches diet, no fruit in the beginning because most fruits have tons of sugar...ideally it'a all about balance...which is good for us, but sometimes NO FUN!!

This diet would be good if only to make me eat my veggies and fruit. But I don't think I can give up the caffeine. I am at my mom's house. No lattes. I am going thru withdrawal.

Pam, if you've already gone through the caffeine withdrawal at your mom's place then you could go right into the SB diet now!

Krista, the SBs say you should eat fruit for breakfast because it gives you sustained energy for the morning. And they point to some other research that says that fruit is most effective if you have it first thing in the morning and then have nothing else for at least 30 minutes. I can't remember all the details... I just do what they say. :}

Shubho, good point about the sugar in fruit. I plan to start supplementing it though with the occasional doughnut once this 30 days is over. :)

Barb, I'll check out the South Beach book - thanks for the tip. There are so many gurus out there, and I think each one has some good points. I agree with you about balance. Sometimes being inbalanced is the most fun. :)

Christin if you do try out the diet let me know what you think of it!
