I still have to do my week at SXSW in pictures (and music!), but until I get that blog posted, I leave you with my week in tweets...it's hard to believe a week ago I was flying home from Austin, but here we are...enjoy your day and most importantly, enjoy the beautiful weekend wherever you may be! :)

Happy 2009!

Hello my blogheads! Happy New Year! I realized over my holiday break that I hadn't blogged in a really long time and I realized that I was missing it. 2008 hasn't been gone too long, but I am looking forward to an amazing 2009 and I look forward to blogging more in the days and months to come.

I am not really one to make new years resolutions, but there are some things that I want to do more of this coming year and things I am looking forward to:

  • Pete Yorn's new album(s) and tour
  • Blog more (I need you all to help keep me too this!)
  • Discovering new music and seeing new bands live
  • Registering for a 10K (I am thinking the Rock and Roll Half Marathon)
  • Having fun, living life and laughing lots
  • Spending quality time with family and friends

And of course, there are other things that I am sure will be on the list, but I hope that 2009 is one of the best years yet.

I can't really go out without saying that probably one of my most favorite albums of 2008 was King of Leon's 'Only By the Night'. Man, do they know how to rock! I have seen them live a few times and have liked them for awhile, but this album knocked my socks off when I bought it and it has been in non-stop heavy rotation since then. For a quick listen, check out track number three. Look for me to blog about them in the coming weeks, but make sure to go out and take a listen. Once again, your ears will thank you. Enjoy the day! :-D

she's baaaaaaaack!

It's a happy day in blogland today. My very good friend and partner in all things, Heidi Dailey is back in the blogosphere after a brief hiatus. She has successfully  handed the SDN'sider over to Cassandra Clark  (who will keep all of you up to date on all things SDN) and Heidi is now Intellichick. Make sure to pop by her blog and say hello and stay tuned as she cooks up weekly treats, talks about all things social media and much, much more. And her blog is so her. Welcome back, Heidi. We have missed you! :-)

LA LA Land...

Hello everyone! This week is going to be a short week for me as I am heading down to Los Angeles for a quick jaunt to visit with friends and celebrate my birthday. I love visiting LA, but I love that I can go away from it just as fast. ;) My bestest friend in the whole world, Claudette (we have been best friends since high school) is coming with me and we are staying at my hairstylist and good friend's West Hollywood bungalow. Its a historical landmark and is steps away from the notorious Chateau Marmont. We have spent many a night up at the Chateau and all I can say is wow. The things we have seen are enough to write a tell all book. But, I am not that kind of girl. But, it is great to be able to have somewhere we can call home for a few days and its minutes from any hot spot we want to be at. A full report will come in another blog, but I can tell you that this trip will be full of food (we are eating at at Top Chef restaurant for my birthday!), music (the boys of Minibar) and much, much more! Here is a picture that we took a few months ago of our home away from home (did I mention Bette Davis used to live in this building?) and another as we were driving away from our place of the Chateau..see, it really is that close! Happy weekend! :-D

Let's Go to the Movies!

Happy Friday everyone! This week has been busy getting in gear for a lot of COOL and exciting things in the software world at Sun. Earlier this week, Mary Smaragdis, sent around a very cool email to all of us bloggers here at Sun and I couldn't pass up the opportunity to let all of my readers know the news! Get Smart featuring the extremely funny Steve Carrell and actress Anne Hathaway hits theaters today and Sun has some pretty prominent product placement in it. This movie is sure to be a big summer blockbuster, so I look forward to seeing it on the big screen sometime this weekend. What a better way to beat this heat that we're having here in Northern California then going to the movies and laughing for a few hours? Oh, and if you are wondering what Sun products are starring in the movie (and in the still below) it is none other than our Sun StorageTek SL8500 Modular Library System. Pretty sweet, huh? Also, Heidi aka SDNGal (and my partner in all things social media) and I shot a new video for Sun Total Access Network that I will be putting up shortly. Don't forget to stop by and check it out! Alright, I am off to enjoy the weekend...I hope you have a great one too! ;-)

Blu-ray Momentum Continues!

Happy Friday everyone! Bill Sheppard, Chief Digital Media Officer, forwarded on some momentum in the Blu-ray space that I thought I would share with all of you:

Blu-ray Disc hardware and software are making huge gains in the home entertainment market. Although hardware supplies are limited at retail,

demand is extremely high. Here are some interesting facts about Blu-ray:

According to a study released by the NPD GROUP on June 3:

Almost 4 million HDTV owners plan to buy a BD-capable player in the next six months. Consumers who purchased a BD set-top player cited "leading-edge

technology" and a "superior viewing experience" as primary reasons for making the purchase. And they indicated a clear preference for BD content.

Source - NPD

PLAYSTATION / BLU-RAY SURVEY RESULTS

In a survey conducted in the first half of May 2008 of almost 3,000 PS3 owners, Sony Computer Entertainment America gathered the following information:

Approximately 52% plan to purchase 6+ BD titles in the next 12 months

Approximately 50% prefer to exclusively purchase or rent movies in BD format, even if they have to wait longer for the title release.

Over 40% report increased movie viewing since the purchase of PS3.

Source - Sony Computer Entertainment America Internal Data

BLU-RAY SOFTWARE SALES

Blu-ray Disc software sales in the U.S. have exceeded the 11 million mark. Blu-ray Disc software sold for the first four months of 2008 are more than 4.5 times the amount sold in the same time period in 2007. In the first quarter of 2007, Blu-ray Disc sales for day-and-date titles represented 1.7% of total sales for the top 10 selling titles in comparison to the DVD version of the same title.  In the first quarter of 2008, that percentage has been raised to 14.3%.

Blu-ray momentum continues to grow! I look forward to what the future has to bring in this space (especially in the music world!). Enjoy your day! :-D

Last.fm in a Box

Yesterday, Last.fm  announced a major expansion to its “offsite community” strategy by partnering with a range of social networks and other online destinations to distribute the site’s ad-supported streaming radio service.

Dubbed “Last.fm in a Box”, the service will be made available to “multiple online platforms”, including Bebo, Billboard.com, Break Media, CBS Television Stations, CBS Affiliates, eMusic, Frengo, Gigya, iGoogle, Live Nation, Meebo, MP3.com, Netvibes, Ning, Pageflakes, Photobucket, Piczo, Six Apart, Stardoll, WAYN.com and WordPress.com, according to the press release. Although none of the partner efforts are yet to go live — since the ink has only just dried — I read that each ‘Last.fm in a Box’ offering will be customized and integrated into partner sites “in a bespoke manner”. In other words, ‘Last.fm in a Box’ is both a strategy and a platform (backed up by a bunch of APIs), rather than simply a one size fits all widget.

flipping out.

I have to confess to something (although its nothing terrible).  I watch Oprah. I do, I watch The Oprah Show and TiVO it everday. Sure there are days that I fast forward through a lot of it, but there are other days that I stay glued. Last November, she had a show that featured young and successful business entrepeneurs. There were many guests on her show such as Sean "Diddy" Combs, and some young, successful people vying to be his assistant at Sean John plus many more interesting guests. What immediately caught my eye was that she featured the founders of YouTube as well. Why did this catch my eye?! Well, on that day, Oprah officially launched her own YouTube channel and filmed her first clip with this handy little digital video camera called The Flip Video Ultra Series which was later coined on the show, the YouTube camera.  What I love about this camera is that its super easy to use. With only four buttons, it’s incredibly simple to record, zoom, playback instantly or delete the videos you don't want anyone else to see. ;-)  I think what is most brilliant about this camera is that it is plug and play. Once you are done recording you can literally plug your camera into any USB port on your computer because it has an extremely convenient USB arm that is part of the camera. And..it comes in a bunch of different colors so you can choose a color that matches your personality best. Mine is pink. So why am I going on and on about this camera? Well, once I saw the camera on Oprah, I quickly went on the web to see when I could get my hands on one because it was around that time that Heidi and I had discussed launching our own YouTube channel which all of you now know as Sun Total Access Network. I was looking for a camera that would be easy to record with and easy to upload to YouTube and The Flip was the perfect camera. We tested it out while we were down at SXSW and we both fell in love with how easy it was to use. In fact, we kept on going on and on about them that our fabulous manager and senior director got our team a few flips so that everyone had them and could capture videos real time. Since getting mine, I carry it with me wherever I go. We used them at CommunityOne and JavaOne and we will continue to use them at each event we go to. I am in the process of making our road to JavaOne music video and many of the clips that are part of the video were filmed on my flip. That project is almost done and once it is, I will be posting it to SunTAN so make sure to keep on checking for new video updates from us. Heidi will also be down next week and we will be filming a new video segment a la the flip for the channel as well...so stay tuned. Also, be sure to check back here later this when I feature my artist of the week as well as a video of me and the ever so fabulous, Chris Melissinos. :-D Enjoy your day!

what does your blog mean?

Hello everyone!

I am officially back to work after taking a few days off, however, I could have been a lady of leisure for a little bit longer. ;-) Last week at JavaOne, I got a lot of questions on why I named my blog and my Twitter channel "Maybe I'm Right". When I was thinking about launching my Sun blog, I couldn't think of anything that I really wanted to name it...I struggled with it for awhile when Heidi, aka, SDN Gal, suggested to me to jot down a few of my favorite songs and see which one might resonate with me. That presented me with an even bigger task, because well, I  like a lot of songs. ;-) I wrote down about two pages worth of songs that I really like and thought might sound good as a blog name...and then read them to Heidi. As we were going through the list, "Maybe I'm Right" kept on moving towards the top of my list because it sort of summarized what I was thinking about what I wanted my blog to be about. Maybe I'm right....maybe you're right...maybe we're all right. It just clicked in at that point and that, my readers, is why I named my blog what I named my blog. When I went to start my Twitter channel, I wanted to keep it uniform so I would be easy to find, so I made sure that I was right over there too. ;) If you are wondering who wrote and performed the song, it is off Pete Yorn's latest album, Nightcrawler.  Most of you know all about Pete from previous posts, so just trust me and go and listen to his music as soon as possible. :-D And you will most definitely need to stay tuned to Sun Total Access Network as I am making a music video of my team's road to JavaOne. Alright, I am off to take on the day and catch up on all my email. Enjoy the day!

Rest and Relaxation

Hello everyone!

I am taking a few days off to recooperate after JavaOne and get my life back in order. (ie, unpack, do wash, go shopping)...JavaOne and CommunityOne were great events and its hard to believe that it is all over...until next year that is. ;) I have uploaded a bunch of videos to Sun Total Access Network so please stop by there and to check out what SDN Gal and I were up to last week. I will be back here later this week or early next week to update you on all the latest news and happenings according to me. Enjoy your week!

Before I leave you, I will leave you with a band that makes my heart smile and my feet tap...If you haven't heard of The Damnwells, get to iTunes or get to your local record store as quickly as you can. They will leave you speechless and keep you coming back for more.  Check them out in the studio recording "I am a Leaver" and I will for sure be telling you much more about them at a later date.

♪ Artist of the week. ♪

Being that I am really into music and I have this lovely forum to subject all of you to what I think is cool, hip and happening right now, I thought I would launch a weekly "check out this artist" blog. This week finds me getting back into the live music scene after having a brief hiatus post SXSW. I have two great shows I will be checking out this week and both shows have me going to one of my favorite San Francisco venues, The Great American Music Hall. Seeing that I am seeing this person on Friday evening, I have decided to feature the ever enigmatic, Teddy Thompson today. Music is in Teddy's blood. His parents are British folk rock legends, Rich and Linda Thompson and music has been in his world since pre-birth. His latest album, Up Front and Down Low is something I suggest everyone listen to and buy. He has one of the most unique and beautiful voices that sucks you in and leaves you speechless. While Teddy's music has been featured in films, I was only recently turned onto him by a dear friend who lives far away in Cupcakeville (shout out!).  I am so glad I am finally going to be able to check him out live and in one of my favorite places. Look for a quick snapshot of the evening next week, but until then, this is my artist pick of the week. Enjoy!
