Email activity and seasonal trends during the past week:
The Retail Email Index: The top online retailers sent each of their subscribers 2.9 promotional emails on average during the week ending Jan. 21, 2011. That’s up 1% week-over-week, down 32% from where it was four weeks ago, and up 15% year-over-year.
The 2.9 emails sent to each subscriber on average last week will be the baseline or floor for volume this year. While volume will exceed this level at several key seasonal points during the year, it’s very unlikely to fall below this level the rest of the year.
The Retail Email Participation Rate: Monday, Thursday and Friday were all tied as the most popular days to send retail emails last week.
The Retail Email Seasonality Meter: Valentine’s Day messaging will dominate over the next three weeks.
