Email activity and promotional trends during the past week:
The Retail Email Index rose 2% to a new year-to-date high of 235 during the week ending Oct. 31, 2008, and is up 5% from where it was four weeks ago. The Index score indicates that the top 100 online retailers sent more than 2.3 promotional emails each on average last week.
While see didn’t see email volume takeoff and establish a new trend line until the second week of November last year (see Nov. 18, 2007 Week-End Trends), I wouldn’t be surprised if the inflection point came a week earlier this year, considering the poor state of the economy.
The Retail Email Participation Rate: Thursday was the most popular day to send retail emails last week.
The Retail Email Seasonality Meter: With Halloween and Breast Cancer Awareness Month now officially out of the way, get ready for all Christmas all the time. Thanksgiving will have its brief run, but it never dominates messaging.
Other things referenced by retailers: coats, jackets, boots, winter sports, outdoors
