Email activity and promotional trends during the past week:
The Retail Email Index rose just 1% to a new year-to-date high of 318 during the week ending Dec. 5, 2008, and is up 34% from where it was four weeks ago. The Index score indicates that the top 100 online retailers sent nearly 3.2 promotional emails each on average last week.
It’s unlikely that we’ve seen the peak in retail email volume for this holiday season. Whether retailers are cooling off after a busy Black Friday-to-Cyber Monday period or are suffering some deliverability issues is unclear. Regardless of the reason, retail email marketers are still ahead of pace compared to last year.
The Retail Email Participation Rate: Monday, which was Cyber Monday, was the most popular day to send retail emails last week.
