Email activity and seasonal trends during the past week:
The Retail Email Index: The top online retailers sent each of their subscribers 3.8 promotional emails on average during the week ending Feb. 3, 2012. That’s up 4% week-over-week, up 13% from where it was four weeks ago, and up 32% year-over-year.
For each of the past eight consecutive weeks, year-over-year email volume growth has exceeded 20%. Considering that email volume grew 16% in 2011, 2012 growth is on track to easily eclipse that mark.
The Retail Email Participation Rate: Friday was the most popular day to send retail emails last week.
The Retail Email Seasonality Meter: “Big Game” messaging continued at elevated levels last week, sucking a little wind out of the Valentine’s Day season. Valentine’s Day messaging will peak this week and we’ll also likely see our first reference to St. Patrick’s Day.
