Week-End Trends: 'Christmas in July' campaigns done

Email activity and promotional trends during the past week:

The Retail Email Index fell 3% to 242 during the week ending July 31, 2009, and is up 1% from where it was four weeks ago. The Index score indicates that the top 100 online retailers sent about 2.4 promotional emails each on average last week.

Year-over-year, the Retail Email Index is up 18% (moving 4-week average versus comparable 4-week moving average last year).

The Retail Email Participation Rate: Friday was the most popular day to send retail emails last week.

The Retail Email Seasonality Meter: Back-to-school references continue their slow climb toward their peak in a few weeks. Now that “Christmas in July” campaigns are done, Christmas references should slow to a tiny trickle until we get deep into September.
