Ping Time: Blog Olympic Relay edition

Instead of my usual Ping Time set up, this week I’ve picked up the Blog Olympic Relay baton from DJ Waldow at the Bronto Blog, who included the Retail Email Blog on his list of favorite blogs. Per the rules set up by IBOC chairwoman Tamara Gielen, I’ve listed my favorite 7 blogs below in no particular order. To impose some objectivity upon my selections, I looked back at my past 20 Ping Time posts and did a quick tally of the blogs that I referred to the most. Here are the ones at the top of the tally count:

Email Marketing Reports: Not only is Mark Brownlow’s blog pretty darn comprehensive, he goes the extra step of putting new reports in context by referring to previous studies, articles, blog posts, etc. so you get the big picture for an issue.

The Bronto Blog: Because of their BrontoFire webisodes and their strong focus on B2C, I find myself referring to this blog a lot lately.

Email Insider Blog: With a fantastic stable of contributors like Loren McDonald, David Baker and Melinda Krueger, I consider this a must-read for email marketers.

Deliverability.com: Probably because I have a lot to learn when it comes to the nuts and bolts of deliverability and because it’s such an important issue, I find myself reading this blog closely.

Campaign Monitor Blog: Mathew Patterson and company outlet some great original research through their blog, and of course, are the geniuses behind the Email Standards Project.

Email Experience Blog: I’m probably a little bias here, but with a growing list of contributors—we just added Jeremy Swift of Blue Hornet and will be adding Derek Harding of Innovyx soon—plus posts from our Roundtables, there’s some great thought leadership here.

BeRelevant!: Besides being very comprehensive, Tamara picks up a lot more of the European email marketing news and research than the U.S.-centric blogs do.

There are, of course, many other great blogs in our industry, including those mentioned by other baton passers like Lisa Harmon at Smith-Harmon Blog, Dylan Boyd at Email Wars, Matthew Vernhout at EmailKarma, Denise Cox at Email Matters, Kath Pay at the UK DMA Email Marketing Blog and Laura Atkins at Word to the Wise. I currently read 42—which is on the low side compared to many of my fellow bloggers—so there are many more blogs out there worth your time.
