The Last Minute Guide to Dreamforce

The other day a friend of mine gave me a call. “I decided to go to Dreamforce,” he said.

My first thought: “Dude, you barely have time!”

But as I thought more about it, the more I realized you can still prep for this massive cloud computing event. Some might have started planning months ago, but if you’re just getting around to it, here are some last minute Dreamforce tips.

1. Pack Lightly
You’ll always go home with more than you came with. It could be business cards, t-shirts, prizes from vendors or just shwag. Bring comfortable but nice clothes. Keep it simple.

2. Show Up Early
Keynotes and sessions fill up fast, like a-line-down-the-hall fast. If a particular session grabs you, be sure to show up 30 to 45 minutes early so you aren’t denied a seat.

3. Schedule Sessions
Speaking of sessions, many are probably filled up. If you haven’t taken the time to sign up for sessions, start now! You need to log in to the Dreamforce app to find them. (We have 14 picked out for marketers to get you started.)

3. Download the Apps
I can never stress apps enough. They can save you time at the event and aggravation after. The Dreamforce app for mobile will help keep track of your agenda. The Yelp app will help you find a quick coffee or a bite to eat. And note-taking apps like Evernote will help you keep track of your thoughts.

4. Contact Key Customers
Dreamforce is one of those perfect events for networking with customers, making them feel welcome and wanted. If you haven’t already, start emailing a few who will be there now and set up times to chat. It’s far harder to schedule once the event is in full swing.

5. Scope Out the Area
Sooner or later, you’re going to want to escape the madness. An escape to a nearby eatery or bar is in order. Use that Yelp app to find them, or check out our list of the hottest new spots nearby.

6. Bring Business Cards
They’re old school, but they’re incredibly handy. Bring more than you expect to hand out. You’ll need them.

7. Make a Vendor List
Sure the sessions are great, the keynotes are inspiring, and the music is shaking. But don’t miss out a chance to find a solution to a problem that’s been ailing you. Make a list of some issues you’ve been meaning to address and walk the expo floor.

One last tip would be to download our Insider’s Guide to Dreamforce, which features tips from veterans of the event. Well worth a read. We’ll we see you there?
