Email marketing: The Weekly Inbox volume 10 (Black Friday edition)

The Weekly Inbox is a collection of email marketing messages from across the retail, travel/hospitality and financial services industries that caught my eye for being clever, forward thinking, creative or just plain awesome.

Welcome back to the next installment of The Weekly Inbox.

According to a survey conducted by Ipsos Public Affairs, 53% of U.S. adults say they plan to shop on Black Friday. And among that group, 72% will make some of their purchases online. Not surprising that more shoppers are moving online -- will be interesting to see how the data actually plays out after Black Friday and Cyber Monday are over.

With so much attention being paid to Black Friday and even Thanksgiving itself (as many retailers opened their doors yesterday), I decided to share with you some emails I have received from retailers on both Thanksgiving day as well as today, Black Friday.

Let's start with Thanksgiving...

The early bird gets the shopper?

The very first email I received on Thanksgiving came from Radio Shack at 12:52AM with the subject line "BLACK FRIDAY starts now online. Time to save!"

Gobble, gobble

A few hours later I got this email from Toys 'R Us with the subject line "Happy Thanksgiving from “R” Family to Yours!"

Stretch it out

Received this email from True Value around 1 PM on Thanksgiving. As you can see they decided to expand their "Thanksgiving" sale into the entire weekend. Good idea.

At first sight

The very first Black Friday email I received came from Zales, which arrived in my Inbox at 12:38AM. Very clean, easy to read and I love the fact that they prominently mention the free FedEx shipping.

Clearing the Way

About 30 minutes later I received this email from Zappos, with the subject line "SNEAK PEEK! Black Friday Clearance!" Like the Zales email, it's very clean and easy to read.

Time is not necessarily on my side

The first time-sensitive email I received came from Express at 3:49 AM. It certainly pays to check your email early.

Good things come in threes

One final Black Friday email I want to share is this one below from L.L. Bean. The subject line featuring 3 great offers pulled me right in: "10% OFF + FREE $10 Gift Card + Free Shipping, No Minimum."

In closing I just want to say I hope everyone had a wonderful and safe Thanksgiving holiday!
