AM Inbox: Using animation to expand email real estate

RetailEmail.Blogspot monitors the email marketing campaigns of more than 100 of the top online retailers. Here are highlights from our inbox this morning:

Linens 'n Things, 7/23, 2 am — Introducing Your Space Your Way + Free Shipping*
This is the most extensive use of animation that we’ve seen in an email recently. The large circular area alternates between images of two bedding packages and each of the five boxes under that alternate between, for instance, an image of a stack of towels and wording that says “Your Bathroom.” Despite all the animation, the email isn’t overly busy due to the slow rate at which the images alternate. Animation is a great way to make better use of your email real estate.

Bluefly, 7/22, 3 am — New Arrivals featuring Summer Looks under $100
While most apparel and department store retailers seems to be shifting most of their attention to the fall season, Bluefly took the opportunity Saturday to promote new summer apparel. They followed up Monday with another email promoting a “Summer Break” sale, offering an “extra 10% off everything on the site today only.”
