The Retail Email Blog monitors the email marketing campaigns of more than 100 top online retailers. Here are highlights from my inbox this morning:
Spiegel, 4/15 — TODAY ONLY! Give yourself a (tax) break! TAKE 15% OFF Mix & Match Swim Separates ALREADY REDUCED UP TO 40%!
With Americans set to receive refunds around Tax Day each year, it has become an occasion for email marketers to try to coax subscribers to pay with some of their tax refund. According to a Bankrate.com survey, 54% of Americans anticipate getting or have already received a tax refund, although the vast majority plan to use it to pay down debt and not to go shopping. In past years, Tax Day had been one of the most popular retail email days of the year outside of November and December. This year only 43% of major online retailers sent one or more emails on Tax Day, which isn’t very impressive.
That said, a number of retailers, including Spiegel, sent a Tax Day sale email (see other Tax Day subject lines in the Subjectivity Scanner below). The Tax Day element is pretty much limited to the subject line here, but I really liked how this email presents swimsuit colors and styles. It has the feel of a “build your own swimsuit” function, which is very engaging.
The Company Store, 4/15 — 20% Off! Taxes are due, here's our break to you.
This is a more traditional Tax Day sale email, with the Company Store extending the sale across both its brand, The Company Store and Company Kids.
