AM Inbox: Sister brand opt-in done right

The Retail Email Blog monitors the email marketing campaigns of more than 100 top online retailers. Here are highlights from my inbox this morning:

Barnes & Noble, 3/18 — Great eBooks at Low Prices -- Sign Up for the NOOK Daily Find
In yesterday’s AM Inbox, I discussed the downside of heavy-handed permissioning for sister brands, citing an example of Bluefly and their sister brand, Belle & Clive. This email from Barnes & Noble promoting a Nook email stream is an example of how to do it right. This email was sent from B&N’s usual email address and “Barnes & Noble” sender name, taking advantage of subscribers’ existing relationship with that name and address. The body copy is singularly focused on getting folks to opt-in to receive B&N’s “Nook Daily Find” emails, but they also provide other opportunities to interact with and explore the Nook brand through the navigation bar links and social media links, all of which are Nook-focused.

Walgreens is the latest top retailer to plug their Pinterest pinboards or contests in their emails. So far, about 8% of major retailers have mentioned Pinterest in their promotional emails.
