>>Holiday Retail Email Volume Sets Record. Get this free reportlet.
The Retail Email Blog monitors the email marketing campaigns of more than 100 top online retailers. Here are highlights from my inbox this morning:
Musician’s Friend, 1/15 — Musician's Friend: New From Winter NAMM Floor
In the wake of Sony (see Jan. 9 AM Inbox) and HPshopping (see Jan. 14 AM Inbox) reporting from CES, now Musician’s Friend is reporting from the NAMM Show. If this is indeed a new trend, I like it. The coverage provides a service to subscribers, helps break up promotional offers, and shows that you have people engaged in the industry.
J&R, 1/15 — Big Game Deals: Sony 40" LCD $999.99 + Free Shipping!
J&R is one of the new additions to my tracking universe. One of the interesting things that they do is that they promote their blog and YouTube videos at the bottom of their emails—there are still only few retailers that are making use of that kind of content in their emails. J&R also promotes their deal of the day at the bottom of their emails. It’s worth noting that many retailers have been promoting products for “the big game”—everything from TVs to jerseys to party goods.
Home Depot, 1/15 — 10% Off Appliances: Don't Pay Until 2010!
After flaming HSN (see Jan. 18 AM Inbox) and praising Target (see Jan. 22 AM Inbox) for their Martin Luther King, Jr. references last year, I was a little worried about what retailers would do this year. Home Depot is the first to mention MLK Day this year and I was pleased to see that their effort was supportive rather than exploitive. With all of the Obama-King comparisons, I would think that there’s plenty of room to overstep and offend.
