AM Inbox: Leap Day edition

RetailEmail.Blogspot monitors the email marketing campaigns of more than 100 top online retailers. Here are highlights from our inbox this morning:

DisneyShopping, 2/29 — Leap into Savings! Goofy Coupons Are Back
Although it wasn’t clear at the start, DisneyShopping made a week of it with their Leap Day promotion. Monday, Wednesday and then finally on Friday with this email, they promoted this as the “Goofiest week of the year” and used Goofy as their pitchman—or pitchdog rather.
As the subject line suggests DisneyShopping has offered Goofy Coupons before (see Dec. 7, 2006 AM Inbox), but this is a nice repurposing.

Ralph Lauren, 2/29 — Leap Into Spring With RalphLauren.com
Ralph Lauren’s Leap Day campaign also had strong branding, with them using a leaping polo horse as their focal point. They use a soft sell approach that they’ve used on the day of many other holidays like Christmas (see Dec. 26 AM Inbox), Thanksgiving (see Nov. 23 AM Inbox) and the Fourth of July (see July 5 AM Inbox).

Coldwater Creek, 2/29 — Leap into extra savings! Save 65-85% on everything in Outlet
While Ralph Lauren used a leaping horse, the animal of the day was most certainly the frog. In addition to Coldwater Creek, several other retailers used a frog in their Leap Day emails, including Bluefly, Walgreens and SmartBargains. In this email, Coldwater Creek uses some animation for some extra pop.

Chadwick’s, 2/29 — Why not leap into savings? Take an extra $29 off today!
This was one of the more pedestrian approaches, but it’s clean, simple and to the point.

REI, 2/29 — It's REI Member Rewards Time: Save 20% Now
The “View more member photos” link is a little small considering the background image that it’s on, but incorporating the box about their member slide show is really compelling. The pictures—which are very cool so check them out—put a face on the loyalty program and give it a strong lifestyle component. It gives the program personality—and even better, it’s personality that comes from its community.
