AM Inbox: GSFs underused during off-season

The Retail Email Blog monitors the email marketing campaigns of more than 100 top online retailers. Here are highlights from my inbox this morning:

Kohl’s, 4/7 — Shopping Pass! Save 15% + Ship it for Just 99¢
Gift services footers (GSFs) are popular email design elements during the holiday season, but seem quite underused. GSFs pull together a number of links like gift guides and shipping deadlines into a single tidy little banner. Kohl’s is one of the few retailers that has consistently adapted this Christmas email element to other major holidays like Father’s Day and Mother’s Day, as in this email.

J. Crew, 4/7 — Our head-to-toe style pile (plus 20% off, in stores & online)
J. Crew uses an animated gif very smartly, creating a neat pile of clothes like you might lay out for yourself. Best of all, the gif is designed with the last frame of the series first, so if the animation is blocked by Outlook, the message is completely understandable, if slightly less fun.
