Lillian Vernon, 3/9 — Shop and Save at our New and Improved Website
Lillian Vernon has relaunched their website and lists some of the improvements in this email. Although the text for the bullet points could definitely be bigger, the overall design is simple and easy-to-scan. This email is a fairly typical example of a website relaunch announcement, with Linens ’n Things’ falling at the low end of the spectrum (see Mar. 4 AM Inbox) and Staples’ at the top (see Dec. 15 AM Inbox). Toys “R” Us, 3/9 — Be R Fan Sweepstakes! Enter for a Chance to Win up to $1500 in gift cards!
This is a solid example of the second generation of “join our community” emails. The first generation simply asked subscribers to follow them on Twitter or fan them on Facebook, sometimes with a sweepstakes incentive. This new generation makes the offer more social and encourages spreading the message. In this particular instance, Toys “R” Us ups the value of the sweepstakes reward if they pass certain milestones. The small chance of winning may keep this from going viral in a significant way, but the idea is definitely where more sophisticated approaches are headed.
