AM Inbox: Expect the Unexpected

The Retail Email Blog monitors the email marketing campaigns of more than 100 top online retailers. Here are highlights from my inbox this morning:

Fresh & Easy Neighborhood Market Inc., 1/29 -- Lyla, don't forget to use your Made For Me coupons!
In terms or personalization, Fresh & Easy has the best rewards program that I have come across in a grocery chain, and their email program compliments it nicely. Their emails come in just the right volume, are timely, and perfectly personalized for me. My name is used in the subject line and main body. I appreciate the reminder to use my coupons, and best of all, the deals are all for products that I purchase on a regular basis. Other retailers could definitely benefit from taking a page from the Fresh & Easy playbook. It's always a let down to receive "personalized coupons" that bear zero relevance to one's actual previous shopping history.

CB2, 1/29 -- every hero needs a sidekick.
This email from CB2 (sister brand of Crate & Barrel) got me to click open because of its unique subject line. The content of the email is in sync with the subject line: it is designed in a vintage comic book theme and features a collection of coffee and side tables. Holy smokes! Nice delivery CB2!

MLB.com Shop, 1/29 -- Shop 4 great deals for your Valentine
Valentine's day emails are coming left and right from most retailers at this point, but it was a nice surprise to find this one from MLB.com. Maybe it's just me stereotyping baseball as "macho" and Valentine's Day as "girlie", so I wouldn't have thought of them as a likely pairing. Kudos to MLB.com for thinking outside the box.
