AM Inbox: EBgames’ Trade-In Values page

RetailEmail.Blogspot monitors the email marketing campaigns of more than 100 of the top online retailers. Here are highlights from our inbox this morning:

EB Games, 6/21 — EBgames.com Newsletter 6.21.2006
Somehow I failed to mention this email yesterday. It is topped with a letter from the editor that says: “Wouldn't it be nice to know what you can get for your used games before visiting your local EB Games? Well now you can! Visit our new Trade-In Values page to check out the latest in-store trade pricing and special offers on featured titles.” It’s a great convenience tool and it eliminates surprises/disappointments at the store, while also driving traffic to stores.

CompUSA, 6/22 — Hurry - ONLY 3 Days Left on HOT Summer Deals 6/22 - 6/24
Did you know that June is Backup Awareness Month? Neither did we. But thanks to CompUSA, now we know. This email was topped with a section on backup systems by Maxtor (which along with Seagate, is the sponsor of Backup Awareness Month). The email prompts you to take a quiz with the chance to win a Maxtor OneTouch III 200 GB hard drive. Clicking on the link takes you to a 10-question, multiple-choice quiz about the Maxtor OneTouch III storage device… well, at least the first seven questions are about that. The last three questions are actually about CompUSA, particularly their shipping prowess. Here are the questions:

How long do you think it takes for CompUSA.com to deliver using 'ground shipping'?
O 1-2 weeks O 7-10 days O 3-5 days O Not sure

How long do you think it takes other eCommerce Sites to deliver using 'ground shipping'?
O 1-2 weeks O 7-10 days O 3-5 days O Not sure

If you knew that CompUSA.com's ground shipping took only 3-5 days vs. other online sites of 7-10 or more days, would that effect your decision to buy with us vs. them?
O Yes O No

Cute. And it will get them some valuable feedback on how much of a competitive advantage it is to have faster shipping than its peers.

ShopNBC, 6/23 — All Star Anniversary Begins Today: Free Shipping and Hot New Products
ShopNBC is celebrating its 5-year anniversary with two days of special programming in conjunction with a multi-day sale. The email trumpets free shipping on jewelry, watches, apparel and beauty products and asks subscribers to tune into the All Star Kick Off Show on Thursday, June 22, at 10 PM ET (which this email arrived too late to promote) and the All Star Extreme Hour on Friday, June 23, at 10 PM ET. Abebooks touted its 10-year anniversary to subscribers this month. Playing up anniversaries is a good way to show subscribers that you are a stable, safe business to do business with.
