AM Inbox: Background colors for a seasonal pop

The Retail Email Blog monitors the email marketing campaigns of more than 100 top online retailers. Here are highlights from my inbox this morning:

Diamond.com, 10/5 — Breast Cancer Awareness Month: Smile for a Cure and Save 20%
More retailers are framing up their emails with a background color. For instance, a grey background was big design element used in Ann Taylor’s recent redesign (see Sept. 2 AM Inbox). In this email, Diamond.com uses a pinkish background to support their Breast Cancer Awareness Month messaging. They normally use a background color, but they don’t use a standard color. If you don’t use one, adding a background color can draw extra attention to a special offer. If you do use one, consider switching it up on certain occasions to add some flair and variation. A pink background on your Valentine’s Day promo, a green one on your St. Patrick’s Day promo, or a black one on your Black Friday email could really make it pop in the inbox.
