Clean energy opportunity and 800,000 new jobs

Everyone recently have adopted going green campaign, whether you're a startup building the next generation wind or solar power solution, or an enterprise trying to measure your data center cost and find an efficient way of consolidating your infrastructure. In either case you may wonder what's a good starting point and how to effectively and easily measure energy consumption with open source tools. Openeco.org is a site you may find useful for your needs. Founded by Sun Microsystems, this site offers free tools to calculate and measure energy consumption cost and carbon footprint, has wealth of interesting data, and can be a great starting point.

If you're an enterprise and your cost turned out to be higher than expected, you should consider to revamp your data center and introduce more efficient systems and virtualization. Check Sun's offers in the space and of course don't forget to leverage OpenSolaris or Solaris with built in Container virtualization technology.

Now if you're a startup, you may want to capitalize on the Recovery Act's recent clean energy investment of $500mln that promotes R&D in the clean energy space, creation of innovative products, and boost clean energy manufacturing with anticipated 800, 000 new jobs. So if you had that idea of creating a unique energy efficient product, the government is providing the seed money to get you started.
