The Power of Blogging

The beach is finally open today, I guess the shark has gone elsewhere, so this will be a short entry. I know a lot of people on my staff read my blog, and while they may find it sometimes amuzing I expect there are at least one or two of them who don't really understand the power of blogging. So I though I would walk through a brief example to illustrate:
  • Last week I included a reference to the Niagara 2 presentation at HotChips. It was simply a link to the CNET article covering the presentation.
  • Someone added a comment to my blog entry asking for a copy of the actual presentation, complaining that the press writeups were lacking in details.
  • I asked the Sun employee who did the HotChips presentation for a copy, and after some quick checking that there were no restrictions from the HotChips conference on cross-posting the presentation, I posted the file. I didn't even make a new blog entry with the post but simply noted it as a new comment to my original post.
  • Apparently on the OpenSPARC.info mailing list someone else asked for a copy of the presentation as well, and someone responded referencing my posting of the file:
    On 9/1/06, general@opensparc.info wrote: > It was posted at mediacast.sun.com: > http://mediacast.sun.com/details.jsp?id=1622
  • Not to be outdone by a simple blog comment or blogs.sun.com or even opensparc.org readership, someone else has now created a UltraSPARC_T2 page on Wikipedia.

Now that is a great example, in my book, on the power of blogging.
