Intel's New Carrier Grade Platforms for Solaris
By marchamilton on Jul 16, 2007
Intel announced today their new carrier grade telco rack and blade servers running Solaris. So why is this news? There are literally 100's of Intel based systems on the Solaris Hardware Compatibility List, but in the past these have all been qualified by a third party, not directly by Intel. Last month, Sun announced the first (in recent history) of a broad line of Sun systems based on Intel x86 processors running Solaris (Sun has been shipping AMD x64 products for several years), and today was Intel's turn. The new Intel telco rack and blade servers running Solaris are targeted at carrier grade applications requiring stringent Network Equipment-Building System (NEBS) Level 3 and European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) compliance. Solaris has long been a stable of telco providers and we are very excited about this new offering from Intel.
