Solaris HPC users can now get a free download of the latest
Sun HPC ClusterTools 7.1
. Sun HPC ClusterTools 7.1 is an update release based on
Open MPI 1.2.4
. Included in Sun HPC ClusterTools 7.1 is new Intel 32- and 64-bit support, improved parallel debugger support, PBS Pro validation, improved memory usage for communication, and other bug fixes by the Open MPI community since Open MPI 1.2 was first released. Of course HPC ClusterTools continues to support SPARC and Opteron based systems in addition to the new Intel support. You should be sure to also be using the latest, free,
Sun Studio 12
compilers to get the best performance out of Sun HPC ClusterTools 7.1, although older Sun Studio 11 and 10 compilers are still supported. And while your updating your HPC software, be sure to get the latest free Sun Grid Engine 6.1 Update 3
which includes several new patches.
We are thinking about releasing a special HPC distro of Solaris that would come pre-configured with HPC ClusterTools, Sun Grid Engine, and Sun Studio. If you are interested, let me know via a comment. Of course, like all our Solaris software, it would be free. So if you are paying a lot of license fees for your HPC software today, now would be a great time to consider switching.
