There are a few magazines I still read regularly in paper form, including
MIT Technology Review
. I usually leave them laying around the living room somewhere to read on the weekend with the added bonus that my teenage son actually finds interest in them these days. Yesterday, however, I read Spectrum on my flight back to LAX and forgot the magazine on the plane. There was an excellent article on repowering solar wind farms in Europe. Apparently the economics of replacing a ten year old wind farm with the latest 2.3 MW turbines are such that a growing percentage of new wind farm capacity is coming from upgrading old farms versus new ones. I wanted to reference the article today and for some reason instead of typing in
URL I simply typed the article name into my web browser search field and was pointed to a very cool, new for me, site,
Scribd which lets you read magazines online.
If you want to checkout the article on repowering solar farms, pull up the
January IEEE Spectrum and use the arrow key to scroll to page 15. There probably is a way to generate a link that takes you directly to page 15, but I've only spent a few minutes on Scribd and I can't tell you how yet. Maybe someone knows and will comment. If not, I'm sure my teenage son will have the answer by Monday!
