MySQL users voice their concerns

Through the very nature of being an MBA student, I am interested in the proposed acquisition of Sun by Oracle.  I have had courses covering the ins and outs of what to do, what not to do, at these very critical junctures for each company.  In the first 6 hours since the news broke, there are already dozens of news articles analyzing the proposed deal.

But, what I am finding interesting is what REAL users of Sun's products are saying on the Web.

As I just mentioned in my earlier post, I search the Web to keep up with what is being said about Sun's products.  Right now on Twitter, MySQL is one of the top 10 topics going out in tweets, as is Oracle.

In fact, the two are mostly combined in the tweets but I am really surprised by the number of MySQL users on Twitter who are feeling panicked about the news.  The general concern can be best paraphrased as 'What is going to happen to MySQL?'

The general concern over other Sun products such as NetBeans and Java can be seen on the Sun Microsystems Facebook page.

The amount of buzz and concern a deal so early in the making is already causing really shows what a loyal following Sun has created for its open-source products, and for that the employees of Sun should be proud.
