So long and thanks for all the bugs

After almost ten years I decided to take another opportunity. Today is my last day in SUN Microsystems. It was great ride. I really enjoyed it all the years.

I would like to thank to all my collegues, to all the wonderfull people that I met and was honoured to work with during the last ten years. IMO, I did the best choice in September 2000 when I decided to join the gang. Everything what you've heard about SUN is true. We did kick the butt(s) (to those who deserved it). The people used to be enthusiastic and pationate about their work (and they still are). The company culture... oh man, it's kind of unsharable experience. You could meet legendary people in corridors. And even better you could work or drink with them too. All your ideas could be changed into an innovation. That was the company that I liked and reasons why I joined. Everything changed, of course, however I changed too :) It's time to move.

I hope that I'll meet some of the readers of my blog at me conferences or during my or your travels around the world. I hope that me and my former colleagues will meet once a while to have a beer and to share the news. I'll miss you.

So long and thank you for all the bugs. - Lukas.

If there were a doubts that the Sun and Oracle are different companies with different approach and different kind of employees then you should see these videos. LOL.

Students are always welcome in Standford University Network

Have you know that SUN's name comes from Stanford University Network. That's not the only reason why SUN launched new start point for students all over the world. Mainly for students that are interested in java, opensource, technologies and Sun's product, of course.

As I would say if I would be a marketing guy ;) "Student Central: Sun now has a place for every student to begin when they come to sun.com! Looking for technology? No problem. Searching for a job? We gotcha covered. Trying to find some classes? We've got that, too. Not sure where you want to go or what Sun has to offer you as a student? Come find out!
This is the perfect starting point to find out just what Sun, as a company, has to offer students today. Covering everything from technology to Eco-responsibility, jobs to social media, this is the first student page that tells the Sun story from a student perspective. Come by and check it out, but be sure to come back as this page will evolve along with Sun's student offerings!"

And have you seen the It Guy? There are more funny videos linked from the students page. However this page is serious it should point you to all the things (including intern job offers) that might interest a student. And if it doesn't? Give them a feedback.

Sun Java Wireless Toolkit 2.5.2 for CLDC

There is new WTK (aka Sun Java Wireless Toolkit ) available for download. After all the Betas next final release. Great job, guys. You can get the WTK 2.5.2 from the download page.

We already bundle the WTK 2.5.2 in NetBeans 6.0, of course. It is bundled from Beta1 build.

JAVA is everywhere (again)

The Jonathan's announcement about change of the SUNW stock symbol to JAVA reminded me about the advertisement "Java is everywhere"

It seems that the world can get a little bit "over-java-ed". If it's good or not will show the future. For now it means that I'll have to change all my links to SUNW stocks graphs.
Should we change NetBeans to JavaBeans?

ZZ TOP at Sun's Xmas party

There is always Christmas party in Sun in Prague. This year it happend in rock club named "Blues Rock Club".
I didn't believe that all the people could fit inside the club after the experience with the last party in the same location. Fortunately, I was wrong.

There was food, beer, a talk of site director, concert of band Abraxas and more.

All hands - a little bit crowded

All the food is gone

Sun's videos for Saturday morning

I'm really lazy to write about Sun Tech Days (that were last week in Prague). The conference went well. I saw an interesting presentations (even not Roumen's ones!). I met people that I hadn't seen for long time. Unfortunately this isn't content of this blog... My son fall asleep for a while and that's time for some funny videos :)

I like this "IT guy". I'd like to have 100 clones of him in my team (at least)...

Prague and Java Me Day

Java ME day was first time in Prague. There were other events in the same time just in next doors - OpenSolaris Day, NetBeans Day. Lot of people chose the Java ME. The event went great. Good presenters, interesting topic, giveaways ;)

Adam and Michal created mobile client to web application on the stage. That's pretty impressive. I liked the Petr Suchomel's presentation about SVG. It showed again that he is great presenter. You would believe how he survived problems with a keyboard. He couldn't find hash "#"(it happend when you present on computer from somebody else ;) ). He solved it with creating of preprocessor block and copy+paste. Preprocessor block can be created from contextual menu in editor. The block starts with slash slash hash.

Adam presents the main featurs of Mobility Pack 5.5

Michal demoing. Why is Petr on knees?
