VisualVM Milestone 1 released

The VisualVM Milestone 1 has just been released.

Major changes in this release:

  • improved UI,
  • better support for Sun and BEA virtual machines,
  • simple localhost viewer (right-click on the Local node and select the Open action),
  • recognition of some applications (Ant, Tomcat, GlassFish/SJSAS, JBoss, NetBeans),
  • removed redundant telemetry information.

If you want to play with the new bits just download it from the project's java.net website and send us feedback.

Comments:

Hi,

great tool! Heap-Dump Analysis of the profiler is a bit limited though. It's missing a retained size calculation of collections to find big objects.

Are there already any plans, when the source or the plugin api will be available?

kind regards,

Ingo

Hi Ingo,

We are aware of this limitation in the Heap Walker and will fix it in future releases of the tool.

We are currently working on the specification of the plugin APIs but cannot make them publicly available yet.

Thanks for your feedback.
