Webinar:How to Save Time and Cost with Nimble Storage SmartStack for Oracle with Cisco UCS (Feb 25)

When: February 25, 11am PST/2pm EST

Panelists:

Michele Resta, Director of Linux and Virtualization Alliances, Oracle, John McAbel, Senior Product Manager, Cisco and Ibby Rahmani, Solutions Marketing, Nimble Storage

For CIOs and IT managers, continuously tuning IT infrastructure to support evolving environments, rapidly provisioning more resources to support growing database environments, maintaining services levels and staying within budgets, especially in rapid growth environments is hard. To address these challenges, Nimble Storage, along with Oracle, and Cisco offers a converged infrastructure to deliver adaptive performance with high availability, capacity savings, efficient data protection, and improved staff productivity while handling rapid growth.

In this webinar you will learn how you can benefit from Nimble Storage SmartStack with Oracle and Cisco. The solution provides pre-tested, validated architectures and documented best practices for Oracle Database environments with Oracle Linux with Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel and Oracle VM.

SmartStack, built on best-of-breed components, delivers the performance and reliability needed for deploying Oracle on a single symmetric multiprocessing (SMP) server or Oracle Real Application Clusters (RAC) on multiple nodes.

Oracle Linux Friday Spotlight - December 6, 2013

Happy Friday!

By now, you've probably heard about the release of Oracle Linux 6.5. One really cool thing about this release is that Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel Release 3 is installed by default, meaning you get to use all the great features of UEK R3 without needing to do a separate installation. And are there a lot of great features in UEK R3! So, our spotlight this week is on the release notes for the latest version of Oracle's Unbreakable Enteprise Kernel.

Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel Release 3 release notes

You'll learn about Control Groups, Linux Containers, DTrace, additional crypto options, improved diagnostics, the updated btrfs, better memory management, more networking options, improvements for performance, security, storage, and much more.

See you next Friday!

Nimble Storage Introduces SmartStack Solution leveraging Oracle Linux and Oracle VM

Nimble Storage today announced a new SmartStack™ converged infrastructure solution leveraging Oracle Linux, Oracle VM, and Oracle Database, running on Cisco Unified Computing System™ (UCS). This solution provides organizations with the ability to meet Oracle Database performance demands and scale without disruption or increased capital expenses.

Highlights of the SmartStack Validated Reference Architecture with Oracle

The new solution is fully tested and validated using both Oracle Validated Configuration test kit and Nimble Storage’s test environments.

- The solution components include a Nimble Storage CS-series array, two Cisco UCS B200 M3 blade servers, Oracle VM 3.2, Oracle Linux 6 Update 4 with the Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel, and Oracle Database 11g Release 2 and Oracle Database 12c.

Nimble Storage’s intelligent flash-based architecture allows customers with Oracle workloads running on Oracle Linux and Oracle VM to take advantage of:

- Adaptive performance to easily grow performance and/or capacity to scale to the needs of OLTP and OLAP applications as they grow

- Ease of deployment with pre-configured optimizations and performance profiles to minimize the guesswork of tuning the infrastructure for performance

- Integrated data protection and enhanced availability enabling organizations to take more frequent backups without disrupting applications, and facilitate quick recovery with Nimble Storage snapshots

Nimble Storage will exhibit its flash-optimized hybrid storage arrays and new converged infrastructure solutions at Oracle OpenWorld 2013 taking place September 22 – 26 at Moscone Center in San Francisco.  You can check Nimble Storage solutions in the Oracle Linux and Virtualization Pavilion - booth #2021.

VISIT ORACLE LINUX AT EMC WORLD

We are at EMC World, Las Vegas, May 6-9 !

Come and visit us at Booth #316

Our team will be at Kiosk #1- Data Integrity:  Preventing Silent Data Corruption with Oracle Linux

EMC and Oracle have partnered since 1995, helping over 70,000 customers optimize their Oracle software on EMC virtual infrastructure. One of those partnerships had contributed to development and enhancement of data integrity features. Data corruption can go unnoticed and recovery is difficult and costly, or even impossible. The EMC and Oracle Data Integrity solution protects mission critical application information from corruption and eliminates potential costs and downtime. This is made possible based on tight integration with the T10 PI standard (previously known as Data Integrity Field or DIF), which prevents silent data corruption, ensuring that incomplete and incorrect data cannot overwrite good data.

Visit us at booth #316 to receive Oracle Linux/Oracle VM DVD Kit, collateral about Data Integrity as well as other goodies.

We will also showcase Oracle VM Storage Connect: The Ease of Managing and Provisioning Storage in Kiosk 2.

Linux Filesystem, Storage and Memory Summit

Chris Mason, Chuck Lever, Martin Petersen and Dan Magenheimer from the Oracle Linux engineering team attended the Linux Filesystem, Storage, and Memory Management Summit in San Francisco earlier this month.

Oracle is actively involved in several of the projects under discussion there and they participated in discussions involving the most pressing challenges facing Linux-based storage today. Topics ranged from getting Linux developers more involved in the hard drive industry to handling low-end flash cards to moving implementations of distributed and cluster file systems forward on Linux.

For a more detailed report on the summit, see the excellent coverage on LWN:
