Friday Spotlight: Get The Story Straight From The Source

Happy Friday!

One of the great things about webcasts is that you get to hear directly from Oracle experts and even ask questions about your own environment. They are a great way to get in-depth information straight from the source, especially if you weren’t able to come out to Oracle OpenWorld this year.

Coming up next Tuesday, we have an excellent webcast hosted by Oracle Linux Product Management Director Avi Miller, “Spacewalk and Ksplice: Keep Oracle Linux Systems Up to Date and Secure.” In the webcast, Avi will explain the details on using Spacewalk and Ksplice with Oracle Linux. And you’ll be able to ask Avi questions through the chat interface. And since Avi is based in Australia, we’ve scheduled this webcast at 3PM PST, allowing our friends in that part of the world to be able to tune in at a reasonable hour.

And thank you to those of you that joined our webcast this past Tuesday on Building the Modern Cloud-Enabled Data Center! If you missed that one, it’s a great introduction to Linux Containers, Docker, OpenStack, and more. The replay is just over 20 minutes, so you can head on over and check it out for a very concise overview of these technologies:

Have a great week!

Friday Spotlight: Docker, Spacewalk, LISA14, Korea Linux Forum, and More!

Happy Friday!

It’s been a fun and exciting week here, it’s difficult to pick a single item for the Spotlight. So here is a round up of the news:

- We released the official Docker images for Oracle Linux. No longer a tech preview, the Docker Engine and official Oracle Linux images are fully supported as part of Oracle Linux Basic and Premier support subscriptions.

- If you missed it last week, the Spacewalk client for Oracle Linux 7 was released. You can read more here.

- We had a great time at LISA14, with many of you getting to talk to our experts at the booth and attending Ken Crandall’s session on the modern, cloud-enabled data center. Here is a picture of a live Ksplice demo going on at the booth (yes, rebooting is obsolete!):

If you weren’t at the show and want to see Ken’s session (and I highly recommend it), you can catch a webcast version this coming Tuesday:

Building the Modern Cloud-Enabled Data Center with Oracle Linux 7
Date: Tuesday, November 18, 2014
Time: 9:00 am PST

Come and hear Ken's insightful views on how Oracle can help you build a modern infrastructure.

- We were also at the Linux Foundation’s Korea Linux Forum. Another great opportunity to answer your questions about Oracle Linux, our Oracle staff at the show told me there was a great response at the booth and our speaking session on Btrfs.

- The Oracle Linux November newsletter is out! It’s a great way to catch up on everything that happened this year at Oracle OpenWorld 2014, read about product releases over the last 8 weeks or so, and much more. You can read it online here, or subscribe so it arrives automatically in your inbox.

Whew, it was a busy week! We hope you have a great weekend and we’ll see you next week with more.

Dell To Showcase Their Solution at Oracle Linux and Oracle Virtualization with OpenStack Showcase

Is your business being challenged to quickly and rapidly deploy critical enterprise applications?  Do you want to automatically provision entire application stacks instead of individual components? Imagine the advantages you can realize through integrated management of the complete IT stack including Oracle VM and the applications running inside the VM!

An example of such integration is the integration of Dell Compellent Live Volume and Oracle VM Live Migration capability, which can be effectively used for planned migration of virtual machines between homogeneous storage arrays with zero downtime. The migration across heterogeneous storage arrays is not so straightforward and a joint solution developed by Dell and Oracle to address this challenge will be demonstrated. You will have an opportunity to discuss other Dell storage solutions developed by Dell Storage Engineering Solutions team.  In addition, you will also learn about the zero downtime heterogeneous storage migration solution leveraging the Dell Software SharePlex database replication solution with ZeroIMPACT migration methodology.

Furthermore, Dell’s latest generation of PowerEdge servers have been certified for support on Oracle Linux and Oracle VM; similarly the PowerEdge Oracle Validated Configurations offer pre-tested and validated Dell/Oracle architectures that serve as an assurance for customers.

Join Dell at the Oracle Linux and Virtualization Showcase with OpenStack, at Oracle OpenWorld, for live demonstrations, and discuss how Dell can help you with Oracle solutions.
