LENOVO: Partners Showcasing Their Solutions at Oracle Linux and Oracle Virtualization with OpenStack Showcase

This Friday and next three Fridays until Oracle OpenWorld, we will be featuring the Oracle Linux and Oracle Virtualization with OpenStack Showcase in our blogs. Our regular Friday Spotlights will resume in October after OpenWorld. The focus of this blog will be one of our key partners -  Lenovo.

Lenovo Next Generation Servers: Oracle Solutions For Mid-Market Customers

Lenovo is a leading server provider in key market segments such as retail, education, hospitality, and enterprise customers with distributed data centers. Many of these customers are running Oracle solutions on Lenovo deployments.

In fact, through Oracle’s Hardware Certification Program, Lenovo’s full suite of rackmount systems, have been certified with Oracle Linux and Oracle VM, providing customers with the assurance that the Lenovo and Oracle combined solution is a proven one. Furthermore, through Oracle’s Validated Configuration Program, customers benefit from the reliability of pre-tested and validated architectures, currently featuring Lenovo’s ThinkServer RD640 and RD430, with Oracle’s red stack consisting of Oracle Linux, Oracle VM, Oracle Database and Oracle Fusion Middleware.

In addition, this year’s Oracle OpenWorld offers a forum for Lenovo to announce some new and exciting news. Lenovo has been approved to move forward with the acquisition of IBM’s x86 server business, and other ancillary product lines. With this new acquisition, Lenovo will support Oracle Linux and Oracle VM on System x, BladeCenter and Flex System blade servers and switches, x86-based Flex integrated systems, NeXtScale and iDataPlex servers and associated software, blade networking and maintenance operations.

Come hear about Lenovo’s next generation servers, storage solutions, and the value of running Oracle software on Lenovo’s family of ThinkServer systems in these Scene and BeHeard sessions.  Visit Lenovo at Moscone South, Booth 611, Kiosk: SLX-022.

Oracle Linux and Oracle VM Hardware Certification Program

The Oracle Linux and Oracle VM are continuing to see growth in IHV (Independent Hardware Vendor) ecosystem. The Oracle Linux and Oracle VM Hardware Certification Program, also referred as HCL, provides a formal means for hardware vendors to work with Oracle to establish high quality support for the certified hardware platform. Since the beginning of the program, number of hardware partners have certified range of server platforms on Oracle Linux and Oracle VM. Currently, HCL lists over 400 certifications from 10 server vendors and the list continues to grow at a rapid pace.

New hardware certification involves close collaboration between Oracle and server partner to ensure that adequate testing is performed on the target server and results are thoroughly reviewed. This rigorous process ensures that when new hardware platform is listed on HCL, it has full support from both Oracle and the respective partner. Additionally, once a certification is achieved with Oracle Linux with the current version of Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel, future minor updates of the software continue to carry over the certification, reducing the need for a re-certification.
