Announcing the release of Spacewalk 2.7

Spacewalk 2.7 Server is now available for both Oracle Linux 7 and Oracle Linux 6 with client support for Oracle Linux 7, Oracle Linux 6 and Oracle Linux 5 (Extended Support customers only).

In addition to numerous fixes and other small enhancements, the Spacewalk 2.7 release includes the following significant features:

  • Addition of the taskotop utility, which monitors taskomatic daemon activities. The taskotop utility is included in the spacewalk-utils package.
  • The jabberd daemon, which supports the Open Source Architecture Daemon (OSAD), now uses a SQLite database for improved reliability.
  • Deprecated jPackage libraries and packages have been replaced with standard packages and libraries.
  • Improved kickstart profile support.
  • New channel.listManageableChannels API call added.

    Can we use space walk for patch management in Oracle Cloud linux instances?

    Do we need license for the space walk.

    You can use Spacewalk on OCI at no additional cost (and no additional license is necessary) but it would require additional resources.

    You might want to check out our OS Management Service instead, though: https://docs.cloud.oracle.com/en-us/iaas/os-management/index.html

    That will give you instance management as a service, also at no additional cost and won't require the additional resources that Spacewalk does.
