Well this weekends adventure was to hook up a home receiver for XM Radio. I live in a major metropolitan area but we have seen a change in music offered by the local stations. A few weeks ago the local Jazz station woke up as a Oldies station. Now the music was ok but a big change from smooth Jazz. The absence left a hole in the Washington area. Nearest replacement was in Baltimore. Baltimore is not much further away but they do not have as powerful a transmitter to reach my home.
So I decided to buy music from XM. When I upgraded my home theater my Yamaha receiver had a jack for XM services. More accurate the jack is label XM Ready. You remember those Cable Ready days. If not never mind. But back in the day cable ready was anything but ready. Cable Ready was like Vista capable. But not as capable.
So I ordered dock from Amazon because it was cost effective. I had to go back to XM to get the card that goes in the dock. I hooked up the dock to the receiver and dropped the card in the slot. I then went to the website and activated the card. Wala. I now have XM Radio and a lot of choice. Music, Sports, News and Talk are now available to my home. Interesting enough, the LCD provides interference when powered on. Well XM is audio only so no worries.
Technology that works. Got to love it.
