New Site Studio 10gR4 Patch With Added Functionality
By Kyle Hatlestad on Oct 08, 2009
A new patch (#7045416) was released on Metalink a couple weeks ago for Site Studio 10gR4. And beyond the usual bug fixes, there were some interesting enhancements put in mainly focused on performance improvements with the Contribution Editor. One of the biggest changes is the OnDemand editor feature. This feature will allow the Contribution Editor form to come up, but not load the editor menus for each element. This speeds the time for the entire editor form to come up and be available. Only when you click within a particular element does the editor menu load and appear. For example, if you're editing a Data File with 5 elements and you only need to make a change to one element, you're only paying the price of having to load the editor menu for that one element.
The key configuration variable with this updated patch is SSOnDemandEditorsThresholdCount. This value determines the threshold for the number of elements when the OnDemand functionality kicks in. So perhaps if the Contribution Form only has 2 elements, you'll want to just load those editor menus when the form loads. But if you have 3 or more, then you want to only load them when the user clicks in them. You would simply set SSOnDemandEditorsThresholdCount=2. By default, this value is set to 6.
Be sure to read the releasenotes.txt within the patch component for all the new configuration entries and other performance enhancements.
