Changing the Strikethrough for Expired/Obsolete Items in URM

I was recently asked how you would change the strikethrough that appears in Universal Records Management for items that are marked as Expired or Obsolete. Users were finding it difficult to read the Title for those items.

It turns out that URM simply uses the <del> tag in HTML around the Title which adds the strikethrough.

So I figure the simplest way to change the behavior is simply modify the style for the <del> tag and change that property. Since there are multiple layouts and skins to deal with, it's easiest to include this as a component that adds the style on all of the pages.

So for the component, you would have a resource include that uses the 'std_style_declarations'. Then you simply call the super.std_style_declarations include to pull in the previous includes and add the style for <del>.

<@dynamichtml std_style_declarations@>
<$include super.std_style_declarations$>.

del
{
text-decoration: none;
color: #FF0000;
}
<@end@>

So now the Obsolete items are identified as red instead of the strikethrough.

Comments:

Thanks, Kyle! You'll want to correct the title to "Expired" items, not "Obsolute." I'll be sure to send you more topics (things I can't figure out). Donna

Hey Donna - Oh, good catch. After you asked, I was checking with my URM guru and she had me set the records as Obsolete to get the strikethrough which I guess is the same behavior as Expired. I've updated the article to reflect both actions causing it. Thanks!
