Into the Eye of the Storm this week at IDEAS in Washington DC

This coming week Tuesday & Wednesday is the IDEAS conference in Washington DC. It is also they day we Americans vote to choose our next President (and with luck the day that choice is made final!).

I'm honored to attend IDEAS this year as a keynote speaker, sharing my observations of the evolution of the assistive technology industry over the last several decades, and where I think we're headed. In particular, I'll be talking about the third generation approach to accessibility - Access by Contract via platform supported programming interfaces. Exactly the stuff we've been doing in the Java platform for the last 7 years, and what Sun and the open source community have been doing in GNOME and UNIX for the last 4 years. It'll also be interested to be in Washington DC at this moment in history...

Another presentation worth catching (if you're in the area) is a panel discussion of open source accessibility (see the 3rd event in the list). Janina Sajka of the Accessibility Workgroup of the Free Standards group will be on the panel, as well as Pierce Crowell, the Program Manager for Accessibility and Section 508 at Sun. As always, a trip report will follow...

Comments:

Good luck with the keynote, Peter. :)
