A new option for ODF users - MS Office 2007 with Service Pack 2
By Peter Korn on Apr 29, 2009
I just found out from the ODF Alliance Weblog that Microsoft's just-released Service Pack 2 for Microsoft Office 2007 for Windows adds support for reading and writing ODF files. This means that Windows AT users now have yet another option for gaining access to ODF documents. In addition to using (a) OpenOffice.org and any compatible assitive technology, or (b) using Microsoft Office with the Sun ODF Plugin, they can now (c) use Microsoft Office 2007 with Service Pack 2 installed. And as before, Macintosh AT users can use OpenOffice.org version 3 or later on Macintosh, and UNIX users OpenOffice.org on the GNOME desktop with the open source AT built-into the GNOME desktop.
Mandatory disclaimer: I have not yet tried this service pack; I can't speak to the quality or fidelity with which it reads/writes ODF files...
