I was really glad to see tutorial how to use Netbeans Mobility and Sprint SDK to create applications for major Iphone competitor Samsung Instinct. I'm looking forward to write few apps for this platforms and test Sprint SDK with Netbeans Mobility. You can find more information here:

Hi,

I just switched my Treo 700 to Instinct and Im a bit concerned. Do you think it will be possible for this phone to have a native instant messenger application such as Mundu? And will I eventually be able to edit Word docs and view pdfs?

I am reading alot from potential developers who say it is impossible to create apps because the phone does not have an actual keyboard. I am totally clueless about all the technical stuff...just want the basics. I understand the phone is not a pda...but for it to be called iphone killer..I believe it should at the very least have native instant messenger.

Thanks!!!!!!

Unfortunately I did not have much time to play with this platform so I cant help you but as soon as I'm done with Mobility 6.5 I'm going to investigate it.

Okay - it's been over a year since you wrote this post. How are your apps coming? Anything useful? Did you learn anything about either Sprint or the Samsung Instinct while developing?

Thanks!

It’s a shame that the samsung instinct never caught on the way the iphone did. Nothing agaist the iphone, its apps, and the sub industry of it has created are excellent. It seems that the content of this article - customization - was the samsung phone's downfall. By standardizing everything, apple created an optimal environment for development, which was the deciding factor.
