Huge Track and Field Action

This weekend has been a huge couple of days for track and field. Some highlights:
  • Usain Bolt from Jamaica sets a new World Record in the 100m at the Reebok meeting in New York running 9.72. He beat Tyson Gay, the world champ from last year easily (9.85) and broke his compatriots (Asafa Powell) former WR of 9.74. Bolt is only 21 and had previously been thought to be better at 200m. Who knows what he can run in the 200m now!
  • The California State High School meet had several remarkable results:
  • LaShawn Merritt beats multi world champ Jeremy Wariner in the 400m at the Berlin Golden League event 44.03 to 44.07
  • Pamela Jelimo runs the fastest time in 10 years (1:54.99) in the womens 800 at the Berlin event and she is only 19!
And in the next few weeks we have a great meet in Eugene for the Prefontaine Classic and then US Nationals and Olympic Trials again in Eugene at the end of June. And there will be great action going on in Europe in June too.

I'm looking forward to it!
