Alan Webb sets new mile American Record

Well, Alan Webb did it! He just ran 3:46.91 to set a new American Record in the mile besting Steve Scott's 25 year old record of 3:47.69 and also becoming the 8th fastest ever at 1 mile.

While I am a huge fan of Steve Scott and own several books about him, it was time that an American broke this record and got back in the game in the middle distances and especially the mile. With Webb now having world leading times in the 1500 and mile and others including Lagat, Tegenkamp, Ritzenhein, and Solinsky all performing well, here is hoping this is the start of many years of great running.

Update: See videos of the race and interview courtesy of Flocasts.

Comments:

Alan is a long time friend and I spoke with him yesterday. He feels great and is ready for Japan. He has worked so hard and been through so much crap. He will go sub 3:30 in Japan so get ready!!

David, thanks for the comment. I'm looking forward to the Worlds in Japan and seeing Alan perform there. Do you happen to know what is schedule is between now and then?
