Web 3D

Some folks from the Web 3D Consortium are dropping by Sun for a meeting at 11am this morning. It seems the NASA WW team and X3D Earth team are working towards an official standardization status where the X3D Earth group will work collaboratively to gain compatibility
with both WorldWind client browsing and WorldWind server content.

Some possible agenda items include:

1. Might X3D Earth reside as a client of WW to take advantage of the huge, established WW server resources?

2. X3D Earth client is already working with two open source client
-> server code bases, WW could potentially be the third, and receive
the same Web3D exposure and marketing benefits as any other Web3D
project.

3. Web3D can potentially harness and help develop the Sun based WW
server, which is not yet organized for independent installation and
usage? Sun can elaborate here.

4. Web3D desires to work closely again with Sun and joint efforts
between our three organizations can only help to encourage adoption of
WW and X3D, potentially providing Sun with a market from those parties
interested in accessing the WW/X3D work efforts.

Additional agenda items:

Expose and market WW (and related) efforts at GeoWeb (Rita will be on a panel) and at the Siggraph Web3D Tech Talk.
Possible Sun and WW folks to attend our X3D Earth meeting in San Diego UCSD on August 10th.
Web3D's liaison with OGC - current status.

Should be interesting.
