Exploring Mobility, Chatbots, Blockchain and Augmented Reality solutions in the Cloud to re-imagine Education & Research

The End of e-Learning

Kevin Roebuck
Director, Digital Experience

Now that Blackboard has been granted a ridiculously broad patent covering years of development by others and is actively engaged in suing all learning management systems such as our friends at D2L, the end of e-learning is near. Moodle, Sakai, KEWL, NetEd and others should expect to be similarly threatened with patent infringement and the world will be stuck with a single totally proprietary system. I can only hope the world of e-learning will not be like the Apple 1984 commercial with Blackboard as the all powerful borg and that some colorful leader will emerge to preserve the freedom and innovation in open systems for teaching and learning.
