Exploring Mobility, Chatbots, Blockchain and Augmented Reality solutions in the Cloud to re-imagine Education & Research

Open Education

Kevin Roebuck
Director, Digital Experience
The single critical theme today in advancing educational
computing and bridging the digital divide is OPEN
SYSTEMS.

Dramatic trends towards open access to code, content,
specs and standards and open publishing models are
changing the nature of scholarly collaboration is and
allowing Educational institutions to seize control of
their destiny beyond proprietary corporate interests
and gain access to the world's knowledge from anyplace
on the planet.

perhaps the most important element are the open standards
for inter-operability. The IMS Global Consortium
is a critical open specification group pursuing
inter-operability between learning management
systems, libraries and enterprise computing
services. Only by creating a common substrate
can we begin to lower the cost to implement
the systems that schools need to create and
share digital information for teaching, research
and learning.

In a few weeks, we will announce our new Center
of Excellence with the MIT Open Knowledge Initiative
with exactly that goal in mind. Stay Tuned.

Our corporate goal of eliminating the digital divide
is an ambitious one. but, you have to give us
credit for trying and embracing the open approach
that started this company and today was emphasized
by the release of open solaris. So, please check it out
and get involved with us.
