In two rather fortunate and timely customer meetings in the past few days, an actual identity strategy and community model may be finally emerging to promote inter-operability and adoption in higher ed. Specifically, creating an OKI
OSID implementation of SAML 2.0, supporting
ID inter-operability with Liberty Alliance, Shibboleth and other ID systems as required for the CSU Digital Marketplace and other federations in higher ed. I've signed up Sun has a member of OKI for 2007-8 and the plan would be to demo it at OpeniWorld
this summer and maybe again at Educause in the fall. They've got a good community model focused on implementations and users. Sponsorship is inexpensive and project results, artifacts and expertise is repeatable and open. Voila!
