Guns n Roses

I went to check out Axl and his new band last night at the Warfield. Last time I saw them was at Shoreline in 1994 with the mostly original lineup and that was a killer show. Our worst fears about Axl either not showing up or starting way late were partly confirmed. The doors were supposed to open at 7pm and the show start at 8. We had met a guy earlier named Noah at Jillian's sports bar who saw GNR in New York. He warned us ahead of time that it probably wouldn't start til at least 11pm. So, we took our time and finished a couple burgers and headed up Market St at about 9:30. Doors not open, huge line around the block. Damn. Anyways, we made our way in and Sebastian Bach opened up with a pretty lame set. A couple of good old skid row songs. Finally, at around 11:15pm, the lights hit and the opening chords of Welcome to the Jungle kicked of the set. They played mostly classic stuff from Appetite for Destruction, a few from Use your Illusion, a bunch of unnecessary solo stuff, and finished around 2am. Definitely a good show and worth checking out, but nowhere near the GNR of old with Slash, Duff and Izzy. Heck, the Velvet Revolver show at the Warfield rocked a lot more than these guys. So, don't get there early if you're going tonight but do enjoy the show.
