Desire2Learn is an all .net shop creating an increasingly popular learning management system and toolset at their home base in Ontario, Canada. For the past 2 years I have felt like Sam-I-am in trying every avenue I could think of to have them move to Solaris. At a tradeshow, on a bus, at a conference, in a lobby, on a boat, but not with a goat. Yet, D2L is a small company with limited resources and committed to their current product development cycle and simply cannot afford another major development release. So, with some considerable help from our local team, we have moved Sun into the multi-platform world in a major way with AMD. By certifying the D2L system running windows on our galaxy servers, D2L has determined they will save more than $160,000 in energy costs with more performance over their previous Intel environment. Now as we move forward together to save their customers money and increase the power of their learning environment on Sun systems running Windows. Over time and as they grow, the benefits of zones, d-trace and our open middleware and identity initatives plus storage offerings will surround the D2L platform. In the meantime, we look forward to more customers removing their intel space heaters and help save the planet.
