Tomorrow, our all-Java e-Learning partner, Elluminate, is hosting a cool international online event
called “Fire and Ice” in conjunction with The University of Sao Paulo’s “School of the Future” and
the Telemar Virtual Learning Community. The event features a one-hour “dialogue” between a class of 14-15
year-old students in the Amazon and a British Columbia-based conservationist and educator who works for
one of Canada’s most renowned environmental foundations.
The topic is “The Environment: Challenges and Opportunities for our Next Generation”. Each
side presents on an environmental challenge that is affecting its respective region. Then, an interactive
dialogue will take place to explore common themes between the regions and discuss possible actions in
which our next generation might be able to take to overcome these challenges.
The event will be hosted by Elluminate’s Roger Hanley, as well as Dan Rickard, who will be participating
live from the Amazon school. To connect the Amazon class, Dan will be installing Elluminate’s “Classroom of
Tomorrow”, a technology-enabled classroom including a computer, electronic whiteboard, LCD projector, and
other equipment – powered by Elluminate Live! software and written entirely in Java.
