Exploring Mobility, Chatbots, Blockchain and Augmented Reality solutions in the Cloud to re-imagine Education & Research

Fire and Ice

Kevin Roebuck
Director, Digital Experience

Fire and Ice is an award-winning project involving four middle
schools from three continents who are collaborating to implement creative projects that help
combat climate change in their local areas, including some very remote
locations. For the past year, the students have been participating in
on-going webinars and collaboration sessions using Elluminate Live!,
the all Java synchronous collaboration platform, to brainstorm and share ideas, as well as gain a broader cultural
understanding.

In the upcoming Fire and Ice III, the schools will showcase their
exciting projects to a global audience, and will review the results
they have achieved to make a meaningful contribution to the environment.

Four schools will present during the event:

Externato Ilundy School- Maputo, Mozambique.
In one of the world's poorest countries, Externato Illundy school has
undertaken a litter prevention program in their capital city, which has
experienced severe garbage collection and recycling challenges that
have resulted in a variety of health hazards and climate change
contributors.
Lakefield College School - Lakefield, Ontario, Canada.
Lakefield College School's 'stop idling' campaign is geared to raising
awareness about the contribution that idling vehicles are making to
increased levels of greenhouse gases, air pollution, and climate
change.
E.M. Abel José Machado School - Massambará, Vassouras, RJ, Brazil.
Machado school has partnered with a local farm to build organic gardens
and raise the profile of organic food production within the local
farming community, one that has been severely impacted by the effects
of soil degradation due to the overuse of commercial fertilizers and
pesticides.

Maria Ivone de Araújo Leite School - Itacoatiara, Amazonas, Brazil.
Maria Ivone school has undertaken a project to help remediate a local
lake that has been devastated by the effects of climate change in
recent years.
